THE NEW BMW M6 COUPÉ: AT THE FOREFRONT OF DYNAMIC DRIVING.

Singapore. Munich Automobiles Pte Ltd – the world’s first dedicated BMW M dealer – today announced the arrival of the new BMW M6 Coupé in Singapore.

“The new BMW M6 has been designed out of a passion for elite performance and an appreciation of exclusive style. Powered by a high-revving V8 engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, the BMW M6 Coupé generates 560hp and 680Nm of torque, with the ability to complete the century sprint in just 4.2 seconds,” said Mr Joel Chang, Executive Director of Munich Automobiles Pte Ltd.

The BMW M6 Coupé further sports a dynamic character defined by its mid-range agility, the precision of its turn-in and traction when accelerating out of corners, its precisely controllable handling under intense lateral forces and its stopping capability.

Bearing classical proportions with sporty yet elegant lines of the new BMW 6 Series and the familiar design language of BMW M cars form the foundations for its eloquent body design. Powerfully taut surfaces and precise contours underline the athletic aura of the new model. Additionally, a model-specific interpretation of hallmark BMW M styling cues includes design details which are influenced directly by technical considerations – such as the cooling air required, chassis geometry and aerodynamics – and therefore further highlight the car’s outstanding performance attributes. This is a fine example of how the ultra-dynamic character which marks out this most focused version of the exclusive convertible is accurately expressed through its design.

Another attribute unmatched by any rival is the leap forward in efficiency as the new BMW M6 Coupé records an average fuel consumption figure of 9.9 litres / 100km and CO2 emissions of 232 grams per kilometers in the EU test cycle, thanks to the Efficient Dynamics technology, such as the standard-fitted Auto Start-Stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration.

Four award-winners spanning a displacement range of 1.6 to 4.0 litres – BMW Group again emerges as the most successful auto manufacturer in the internationally renowned engine contest.

Munich / Stuttgart. Unbeaten titleholders and triumphant newcomers have secured the BMW Group’s renewed pre-eminence at the 2012 International Engine of the Year Awards. Powerplants guaranteeing efficient power delivery in current BMW and MINI models topped no fewer than four out of eight displacement categories. The quartet of trophy-winners comprised two four-cylinder engines, a straight-six and an eight-cylinder. Scooping up best-in-class wins were the 1.6-litre turbo unit of the MINI Cooper S, the four-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology that drives the new BMW 328i, among others, the straight-six with M TwinPower Turbo of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, and the V8 under the bonnet of the BMW M3. CELEBRATION OF THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF BMW M.

World’s first dedicated BMW M dealer restores classic BMW M3 Sport Evolution to its prime.

Singapore. As BMW M GmbH celebrates 40 glorious years since its establishment in 1972, Munich Automobiles - the world‟s first dedicated BMW M dealer and authorised BMW Service Centre - pays tribute to this symbolic milestone by restoring the classic 2.5-litre BMW M3 (E30 model) Sport Evolution.

The 6-month project first began in January 2011, and involved the expertise of up to five certified BMW M technicians at Munich Automobiles‟ Service Centre.

“Forty great years have passed since BMW M first started its pursuit for speed and performance, and we‟ve seen the birth of some legendary cars over these years, namely; the BMW M1 and BMW M3, alongside many other greats,” said Mr Neil Fiorentinos, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia.

“In particular, the BMW M3 was one of the most successful touring cars ever to be built. With an undisputed leadership position in the international touring car scene, it has claimed dual wins in the European Tour Car Championships and German Touring Car Championships (DTM) respectively, as well as many other international events and championships. Further, the first BMW M3 was equally successful as an on-road car for customers with more than 17,970 units sold worldwide,” added Mr Fiorentinos.

“To celebrate this significant milestone of BMW M, Munich Automobiles has embarked on a restoration project to bring the ultra-rare 2.5-litre BMW M3 (E30 model) Sport Evolution back to its former glory. Apart from being the first BMW M3 ever built in history, it is also a revolutionary symbol that saw the union between sporting performance and environmental protection. Additionally, the 2.5-litre BMW M3 Sport Evolution holds a special position in the hearts of petrolheads alike, with only 600 units of it around the world. Therefore, we couldn‟t have found a more apt BMW M model to commence this restoration project on,” said Mr Joel Chang, Executive Director of Munich Automobiles Pte Ltd.

THE CHAMPION IN TOURING CAR RACING

25 years ago the BMW M3 started its unique series of victories.

Munich. In August 1985, a rumor surfaced in motor magazine Auto-Deutschland which emanated from a new sports car. An A Group Car From BMW that was a thoroughbred racing car according to the rules but was also be produced in a version licensed to drive on open roads for everyday use. Speculation about this dream car that could take to normal roads and was intended for the "Most dynamic among BMW 3 Series Drivers" was right on target. But the pundits missed the mark about the motor-sport car by a mile on one prediction: They were convinced that anyone who "wants to be a key player in the A Team needs to be turbocharged under the bonnet". Not true. The BMW M3 had a naturally aspirated engine. And it became the most successful touring car in the history of BMW.

The M3 project was launched just a few months earlier. Production of the M1 mid-engine sports car had already been discontinued for some time and BMW CEO Eberhard Kuenheim commissioned a design for a successor, almost as an aside, according to legend. After one of his regular visits to Motorsport GmhB in Munich's Preußenstraße he said, almost as he was leaving: "Mr. Rosche, we need a sporty engine for the 3 Series." His aspiration was in good hands. Motorsport GmbH with its managing director of technical development Paul Rosche had demonstrated its expertise with the legendary 5 Series Saloons driven by M engines as well as developing the Formula 1 turbo engine that powered Brazilian Nelson Piquet to win the World Championship in the Brabham BMW in 1983.

Power source: a four-cylinder engine with 2.3 liters displacement and four-valve engineering.
The new 3 Series engine had something in common with this: the crankcase. It originated from volume production and actually formed the basis for the two-liter engine with four cylinders. Four cylinders meant less weight and high torque, an ideal platform for a sports engine in the projected displacement class. Naturally enough, the series four-cylinder engine was much too tame for a sports engine. A comprehensive power boost was called for in order to turn the plucky daily workhorse into an athletic and sporty power unit. The BMW design engineers increased the displacement to 2.3 liters and applied a formulation that had already achieved significant successes over a period of many years: four-value engineering. There was also another reason for the decision to opt for a four-cylinder engine and not adopt the six-cylinder engine introduced in the BMW 3 Series. The longer crankshaft in the big engine started to vibrate much earlier than the shorter four-cylinder shaft. The design engineers therefore designed the crankshaft drive of the BMW M3 with sufficient torsional stability to achieve 10,000 revolutions a minute and more.
